To turn iPad on: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of the unit for a few seconds until you see it start.

2. How to restart
First make sure you don’t have the Hold button on. Your iPad may be locked not frozen.
Lock and unlock the iPad using the Hold switch. Press and hold the Menu and Center buttons together for about 6 to 8 seconds. If done correctly, you should see the screen turn off then see the Apple logo.
3. On-The-Go Playlist
You can make a queue of the songs you want to listen to. Go to a song, artist, album, or even a playlist. Click on the Center (Select) button until your selection flashes. You can then go on to your next selection. You can review the queue you have just put together by going to Playlists, it is called On-The-Go.
4. Save battery
You can extend the life of your battery per charge by avoiding skipping songs (especially on the hard disk iPads), turning off the backlight, and turning the iPad itself off. The more you stick to this list, the longer your battery will last. Turn off WiFi in the settings menu to save battery power when not in use.
5. iPad to PC, iPod to iPad, iPad to Mac etc
If your iPad is set to "Automatically update all songs and playlists", iTunes will update the iPad with your current library when you connect it. This is a nice feature, but keep in mind the following two cases:
1) Your iPad contains songs, which you accidentally lost in your music library.
All songs, that doesn't exist in your music library anymore will be deleted from the iPad if you connect it and iTunes does the update. To supress the update, activate iTunes, plug the iPad in and immediately hold down Shift + Ctrl + Alt until the iPad is shown in iTunes source list. After that you can start restoring your songs.
2) You want transfer songs from your iPad to another PC with installed iTunes.
If you have also activated the setting "Open iTunes if this iPad is attached", iTunes opens and ask you about to replace the content of your iPad with the current music library. If you click "Yes" iTunes will delete all songs on the iPad, which are not in the current music library. And this were the songs you want to transfer...
So always answer with "No" !
You can supress this dialog with Shift + Ctrl + Alt also.
You can deactivate the automatically update by setting the iPad preferences to "Manually manage songs and playlists". You find this setting here: Connect your iPad and start iTunes. Right click on the iPad in the iTunes Sourcelist and choose "iPad Options". You can also click in the lower right corner on "Display iPad options".
It is strongly recommended to enable the "Manually manage songs and playlists" setting before using iPad Transfer!
