iOS 4.2 Released to Developers

Posted on November 9, 2010 by editor

Now that iOS 4.2 Released and in the hands of most iOS developers, rumor as it that the new operating system will be released very soon.

iod 4.2 released

According to Inside-Handy, Deutsche Telekom – a German wireless provider who carries the iPhone is expecting the new release of iOS to be available as early as Tuesday (yes, tomorrow). Since OS X 10.6.5 and iTunes 10.1 are necessary to support iOS 4.2 and leverage features such as AirPrint, some sites even believe that the three updates will be launched together.

So, will iPad owners be able to enjoy folders, multitasking, GameCenter, AirPrint and AirPlay when they wake-up tomorrow? Not so sure. Apple traditionally launches updates on Tuesdays, so tomorrow is a good candidate. But Apple may decide to wait at least an extra week.

Now, Apple may choose to release iOS 4.2 anyway, even before OS X 10.6.5 is ready, as after all, AirPrint and AirPlay can wait a couple extra weeks, and most iPad owners who have been extremely patient so far will be delighted to play with the other new features offered by the 4.2 update. But the app issue could be the real deal-breaker for a November 9 launch, and Apple may decide to give some extra time for developers to make sure their apps are ready for the big day.

According to our sources, and for the reasons highlighted above, the iOS 4.2 released date is much more likely to be Friday, or even next Tuesday. Wait and see.
